"Um, Mom?"
"Yes, Madan?"
"Are you ever going to buy furniture for that room over there?"
That room is our living room. In our previous house, that room was a playroom so we never bought grown-up furniture. Now, that room is the biggest room in our new house. And, it's got great hardwood floors. The kids asked if it could become a basketball court. I would have done it, but it's not that big.
"Mom, are you going to?!?!"
I looked at Madan and wondered why a six-year-old boy was interested in home furnishings. Is this the start of something new, I wondered? Did I need to hide Kaila's nail polish and my dresses? Did I need to start Tivo-ing Project Runway and Glee instead of Sunday football and game shows? Crap! Why didn't we buy a bigger house with more closets, I thought! (Not so Madan could stay in them. More so b/c I could hide my favorite dresses that I won't share. Dry cleaning is expensive, you know?) This could be good, I thought. After all, I'm in dire need of a personal stylist.
"Yeah, I know. I need to get on it. Um, why do you ask?!?!?"
"Well, I was watching Jeopardy last night and I saw this commercial for a furniture store called Art Van. They're having a mega sale this weekend. $300 dollars off final purchases. So, if you wanted to get furniture, that might be a good place." he said straight up.
"Ohhhhhhhhhhhh..." I was doomed to a life of mom jeans and bad hair. But, I'm impressed. I didn't even think he knew the room was empty.

On an unrelated note, congrats to Madan for correctly answering last night's final Jeopardy question: "What NFC team never made the Super Bowl?"
"The Detroit Lions!!!" he screamed at Alex Trebek.
Mike looked at me, incredulously, as if we had the next Albert Einstein on our hands, but with much better hair. I rolled my eyes. He's not some child prodigy. He was just stating the obvious. As Madan said after shouting at the telly, "Everyone knows the Lions are the worst team ever." I didn't have the heart to remind him that he's a Browns fan.
